The Cliffs of Fundy Geopark is a UNESCO Global Geopark along Nova Scotia’s Fundy shore, from Lower Truro to Apple River. Through conservation, education, sustainable tourism, and community partnerships, the Geopark celebrates and promotes the region’s world-renowned geology, natural landscapes, biodiversity, cultural heritage, and communities. Reporting to and taking general direction from the Cliffs of Fundy Geopark Society (COFGS) Board of Directors, the Managing Director provides leadership to advance the Society’s vision and strategic priorities while strengthening the Geopark’s impact, profile, and long-term sustainability.

The Managing Director provides leadership for the organization, overseeing day-to-day operations, organizational development, financial management, stakeholder relations, and implementation of the Geopark’s strategic priorities. Working with staff, volunteers, partners, and communities throughout the region, the Managing Director helps advance the Geopark’s mandate and strengthen its profile locally, nationally, and internationally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing strategic leadership to advance the vision, mission, and long-term sustainability of the Geopark;
  • Managing organizational operations, financial administration, reporting, human resources, and supervision of the Geopark team, including a Community Engagement Coordinator, Geoscientist, summer youth employees, and contracted site managers for the Geopark’s visitor centres;
  • Supporting and coordinating Board and committee activities;
  • Developing and implementing annual operational plans and strategic objectives;
  • Advancing geo-conservation and environmental stewardship initiatives;
  • Supporting educational programming, interpretation, outreach, and public engagement activities;
  • Maintaining strong connections with communities throughout the Geopark region and ensuring awareness of local priorities and opportunities;
  • Building partnerships and collaborative projects with community organizations, tourism operators, educational institutions, governments, Mi’kmaq communities, the Canadian Geoparks Network, the Global Geoparks Network, and other UNESCO Global Geoparks;
  • Identifying and pursuing funding opportunities, including grant writing, fundraising, sponsorship development, and donor relations;
  • Supporting sustainable tourism, entrepreneurship, and economic development opportunities throughout the Geopark region;
  • Overseeing communications, marketing, branding, and promotional initiatives;
  • Managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Professional Qualifications
Applicants must possess strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with community members, volunteers, staff, government agencies, and partner organizations. Experience in project management, strategic
planning, budget administration, fundraising, stakeholder engagement, grant management, and database management would be considered assets.

Education and Experience
Applicants should possess a degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Public Administration, Tourism, Community Development, Environmental Studies, Geography, Geology, Earth Sciences, Sustainability, Recreation Management, Communications/Public Relations, Non-Profit Management, or another related discipline.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:
  • Not-for-profit or charitable organization management;
  • Sustainable tourism and economic development;
  • Fundraising and grant development;
  • Environmental stewardship or conservation initiatives;
  • Community engagement and partnership development;
  • UNESCO programs or cultural/natural heritage organizations;
  • Entrepreneurship and regional development initiatives;
  • A demonstrated appreciation for the outdoors and the natural and cultural heritage values of the Geopark region.
  • A minimum of three to five years of progressively responsible management experience is required.

The salary range for this position is anticipated to be $72,000–$88,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is based on a 35-hour work week; however, flexibility in scheduling may be negotiated with the successful candidate based on organizational needs and candidate availability.

The Geopark maintains offices in Debert and Parrsboro, Nova Scotia. Flexible and remote work arrangements may be considered. Travel throughout the Geopark region and occasional national and international travel are required.
