About the role: Reporting to the Parks and Trails Supervisor, the Parks and Trails Maintenance Worker performs a variety of ground maintenance and construction functions in support of all Municipal parks, athletic fields, trails, and green spaces. Maintenance work includes painting, brush clearing, tree removal and planting, trimming bushes, mowing, whipper-snipping, weeding, and grooming flower beds. Construction work includes building/repairing/installing picnic tables, shelters, benches, signage and playground equipment. These tasks occur in varying types of weather and outdoor conditions. The Parks and Trails Maintenance Worker requires the ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labour. This is a unionized position with CUPE 3945.
This is a 6-month temporary term position with the potential for continuation.
Salary Range: $27.86/hour, as per the collective agreement. This position is not eligible for the group benefits plan or pension plan.

Education & experience required:
· Completion of grade 12 education or equivalent, and a combination of relevant post-secondary education, experience and proven ability
· Post-secondary in carpentry certification, or proven carpentry experience, considered an asset
· Experience in performing ground maintenance to include mowing, weeding, gardening, trimming, and maintenance of flower beds, etc
· Experience and demonstrated ability in operating chainsaws, and other ground maintenance equipment
· Experience working with a work crew
· Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, relevant to the provisions that apply to this work
· Completion of WHMIS training and CPR/First Aid an asset
· Possess a valid class 5 Nova Scotia Drivers’ License and have access to a vehicle
· Can produce a satisfactory criminal record check and driver’s abstract
