About the role: Operates mobile and stationary equipment at the Compost Facility to include the compost loader, screener and turner. Works on the compost tipping floor feeding the shredder, filling bunkers and relocating material into the other buildings/curing pad. Screens and turns compost as required. Assists with directing traffic on the compost tipping floor as needed and performs daily inspections, maintenance, and cleaning of loader equipment. This position may also be expected to operate other mobile equipment and assist with snow removal and litter clean up from around the site as required. Operates a wheel loader and directs traffic at the Balefill during their scheduled Saturday shifts. This is a unionized position with CUPE 3945.
Salary Range: $27.86 per hour. 40 hour work week, Monday to Friday and every 12th Saturday morning
Qualities to succeed in the role:
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions required when working around heavy equipment and the public.
- Ability to sit for periods in the loader as well as perform physical labour tasks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of staff and the public.
- Ability to maintain high productivity and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
Education & experience required:
- Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license with a clear driver’s abstract.
- Valid Loader Operator certification.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated ability in operating a wheel loader.
- Experience operating other mobile equipment or possession of a class 3 driver’s license will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, relevant to the provisions that apply to this work.
