About the role: Under the direct supervision of the MRF Production Supervisor, the Baler Operator is responsible for the daily operation of the Municipality’s baler, located at the Materials Recovery Facility. This position maintains constant and efficient flow of material from the bunkers through the baler to be ready for warehousing. Responsibilities include but are not limited to ensuring proper length and compaction of bales, conducting and recommending maintenance of all baler systems and conveyors, maintaining record data, communication with shipping/receiving and vehicle operators, and cleaning duties. This is a unionized position with CUPE 4106.
 
Salary Range:  $27.71 per hour. 40 hour work week, Monday to Friday
 
Qualities to succeed in the role:
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions required when working around heavy equipment and public.
  • Ability to perform physical labour tasks.
  • Ability to maintain high productivity and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
 
Education & experience required:
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license with a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
  • Must have previous Baler Operator experience, preferably 1 year.
  • Valid forklift operator certification.
  • Fall protection certification, with the ability to work at heights of up to 30 feet. 
  • Confined space certification.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, relevant to the provisions that apply to this work.
