About the role: The Municipality of Colchester is looking for enthusiastic and motivated students to work as part of a two-person environmental protection crew, who will report to the Waste Compliance Officer. There are several different aspects of this job which include the following:

  • Participating in curbside and commercial waste audits in consultation with the County’s Waste Reduction Team to educate residents on the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) enhanced recycling program. 
  • Participating in litter abatement, remediation of properties that receive illegal waste, litter clean-up along roadsides, as well as around our site in Kemptown.
  • Assistance with the County's green cart delivery and battery collection program.
  • Participating in public events which may include Household Hazardous Waste and Paper Shredding, as well as day camps and the farmer’s market.
 
Salary:   $18.00/hr, full-time Monday-Friday (4-month term May-August). May be required to work outside of regular hours for community events.

  • Interest in environmental protection
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy labour with or without accommodation. This position may require extensive walking on uneven terrain and lifting.
 
Education & experience required:
  • Full-time post secondary student and returning to school on a full-time basis the next academic year
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software
  • Understanding of waste management practices, an asset
  • Conditions of employment include: being legally eligible to work in Canada, a valid NS driver's license, a satisfactory driver's abstract, and clean vulnerable sector and child abuse registry checks.
